The whole game is two decisions

Every obstacle in Neon Dash is answered by either going up or going down, and the game tells you which one in plenty of time. Blocks and spikes sit on the road, so you jump them. Gantries hang from above with a low gap, so you slide under. The only real skill is resisting the urge to jump too early, which is the mistake that ends most runs in the first thirty seconds.

If you do mistime it, you have a second jump in the air. Use it to save a run rather than to gain height, because the coins that sit highest are never worth the risk of coming down on a spike.

Why the coins matter more than the distance

Distance ticks up steadily, but coins are where the score actually comes from, and every fifth coin raises your multiplier for the rest of the run. That makes a careful run through a coin arc worth more than a fast run that skips them, and it is the reason your best score is usually a run that felt slower than your fastest one.
